Are you registered to vote? If you are not, you could lose the right to have your say.

Changes in the system mean around one million people will be taken off the electoral register this year. You can make sure you’re not one of them by registering to vote at gov.uk/registertovote

It is quick and easy - you can register to vote in just three minutes at gov.uk/register-to-vote You will need your National Insurance number, so make sure you have it ready. You can use this website on your smartphone.

You can’t vote in elections if you’re not registered to vote. Next year there will be major elections here in Bishop Auckland Constituency. And there’ll be a vote on whether the UK should stay in or leave the European Union. If you don’t register, you won’t be able to have your say.

And don’t forget, if you don’t register to vote, you might end up with an £80 fine, and even find it harder to get a mortgage or a mobile phone contract.
