Helen celebrates local volunteers

Helen Goodman MP for Bishop Auckland joined local charities in thanking volunteers for their contribution. Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration in recognition of all the hard work volunteers take part in.

Helen said:

"I know from visiting local organisations and charities across the constituency that they would not survive without the tremendous amount of hard work that goes on whether it is filling out grant forms, serving meals, sorting clothes and food or running youth clubs.

"I am delighted to be presenting awards this weekend to young talented footballers in Bishop Auckland and it is the volunteers behind the scenes - collecting subs, coaching, providing lifts and supporting the young people week in week out who also deserve our praise.

"I would urge anyone who is interested in volunteering to go for it. As well as benefiting the local community through your skills it can build confidence and additional skills particularly in those seeking employment."
