Helen responds to fall in unemployment

Helen Goodman MP, Shadow Work and Pensions Minister and MP for Bishop Auckland said;

“Today's fall in overall unemployment in the region is welcome but five years of the Tories' failing plan has left working people £1,160 a year worse off in this region. Sadly the region still tops the unemployment league table at nearly 8 percent. Low pay jobs have left thousands of working families across the North East struggling to make ends meet with an estimated 28,000 people stuck on zero hour contracts.

“Labour's better plan for working families will raise the minimum wage, create more good jobs, extend childcare and guarantee apprenticeships for every school leaver in North East who gets the grades.”
