19 November 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference
Discovering that the government had not allocated any time for Parliament to discuss what they aim to secure from the Paris Climate Conference, despite the fact that decisions taken there will have potentially planet-changing implications, Helen secured a Back Bench Business Debate on Preparations for the Paris Climate Conference.
Since May, the government has:
- removed the climate change levy exemption
- removed the subsidy for onshore wind
- restructured VED
- ended the zero carbon homes commitment
- cut the support for solar
Solar and wind trade associations suggest around 30,000 jobs across the country are at risk.
Watch Helen and other MPs holding the government to account, showing how badly recent changes to domestic renewables policy will affect local businesses, and pressing them to set a better example internationally. The government must understand that we also need them to secure a strong deal in Paris for the sake of Britain’s future prosperity. #COP21.
