Helen swears in to Parliament

As a Member of Parliament Helen is required to take an oath of allegiance to the Crown before she can take her seat in the new Parliament - this process is known as swearing in.

MPs cannot ask questions, speak in a debate or vote until they have sworn in. You can find out more information about Swearing In and the Parliamentary Oath on the Parliament website.

The wording of the oath: “I Helen Goodman swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God.”
