Earlier this year, I opened up an online survey to ask for your thoughts on a lot of important issues. Over the next few weeks, I will be posting blogs on some of these topics, including town centres, health and social care, crime and policing, and education and employment.

To start things off, I thought I would share a summary of your priority areas – the things you have told me you most want me to tackle as your Member of Parliament.

If there’s an issue that isn’t mentioned here, please get in touch by phone, letter or email. You can also respond to the survey. I will be keeping this open all year for you to share your views – please let me know what you think!

Who responded?

This web survey went live on 5th February 2019, and is ongoing. This post looks at responses received from February to May.

Your Priority Areas

I wanted to know which issues were most important, so I asked people to pick their top topic from a list of 8 things, here’s what everyone said:

As can be seen from the graph above, both Town Centres and the NHS and Social Care were identified as top priorities for many people.

I also wanted to know what people felt was the most important issue facing the country at the moment. I left this question completely open, so that anyone responding could submit anything they liked, in their own words.

Aside from the topics already identified above, there were quite a few other things mentioned, including the impact of globalisation, funding for local councils, and tackling poverty and inequality. These are all really key issues.

What about Brexit?

Brexit was mentioned frequently in the survey responses – as I expected! So, to find out what aspects of leaving the EU were most important locally, I asked people to choose their top priority for Brexit.

As you can see from the graph above, most people seemed to prioritise access to the Common Market. This is the Brexit solution that I have been actively working towards in Parliament.

More Locally

I also wanted to know what people thought was the most important issue facing the local community.

There were a lot of different answers to this question, with responses ranging from law and order, to GP and hospital services, antisocial behaviour, changing town centres, and irresponsible private landlords.

I’ll be responding in detail to these issues in upcoming blog posts, so please look out for these in the next couple of weeks.
