Helen has sponsored a new Private Members Bill which would require property management companies to demonstrate how residents’ management fees are being used.

The Freehold Properties (Management Charges) Bill, was introduced to the House of Commons on Wednesday by Preet Kaur Gill MP. The bill would require landlords to provide accounts of management charges payable under section 19 of the Leasehold Reform Act 1967 to freehold property owners. This would make the maintenance fees charged to homeowners much more transparent, and hopefully discourage the current practice of high fees and poor service.

This Ten Minute Rule Bill is in addition to Helen’s Bill, titled the Freehold Properties (Management Charges and Shared Facilities) Bill.

The date of second reading for both bills are yet to be announced.
